Established in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur was modernized in 1942 by Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II and the then Prime Minister, Sir Mirza Ismail. Houses in Jaipur were painted pink in the year 1875 by Sawai Ram Singh over their existing white shade because soon, the Prince of Wales (Edward VII) had scheduled a visit to the city and Ram Singh wanted to show a gesture of hospitality towards the prince. So as per the story, that's how the city earned its tag as the Pink City of India.
