As experts across the country anticipate a probable third wave of the pandemic and its worrying impact on children, the statistics from Jaipur is raising alarming questions. As per reports, more than 3,500 kids below 10, have tested positive for the virus in April-May and the count hovers around 10,000 for children in the age group 10-20. Given that these numbers are just for the state capital, it can be said that a large count of children must have been affected by the contagion during this period.

Urgent need for amplified measures to curtail infections amongst children

While the second wave is showing signs of diffusion in multiple areas across the country, the fear and predictions around an impending third wave have arrested uncountable lives. Amid the current uncertainties, the age-wise distribution of Jaipur's case tallies since the onslaught of the second wave shows that many children have been infected in April-May. Reports state that 10,022 children aged between 11-20 tested positive while 3,589 kids below 10 were diagnosed with the virus, as per official records.

Through the perturbing state of affairs, the sudden hike in infected children deserves urgent attention and requires amplified measures and caution to prevent the spread of contamination. One of the major causes behind this escalation can be attributed to the fact that the city witnessed a sustained rate of high cases for a long time. Further, reports mention that the maximum count of infections was recorded amongst individuals between 21 to 40 years of age.

804 new cases and 4,072 recoveries were reported in Jaipur on Monday while the active case tally came down to 21,961 patients. Cumulatively, 1,80,544 individuals have been affected by the virus in the capital city and 1,764 of these have succumbed to the deadly virus till now.
