In a bid to increase the trade of locally made jewellery and food items from Rajasthan, the State Small Industries Corporation (RajSIC) in a meeting approved the development of an Air Cargo Complex in Jaipur's Mansarovar region. Reportedly, the new Inland Container Depotwill export valuable, semi-precious jewellery from Rajasthan as well as fruits and vegetables produced in the state.
RajSIC has increased its handicraft sales three times in the first quarter of the current financial year as compared to previous years, said reports. It is also planning to increase sales of rural handicrafts of the State.
Inland Container Depots (ICD) are dry ports equipped for handling temporary storage of containerized cargo. This facilitates hinterland customers to receive services more conveniently and closer to their business premises. This will not only increase the product sale and purchases but will also reduce the cost of logistics for local businesses.
Owing to its experience in operating dry ports and air cargo, RajSIC is trying to develop a large-scale air cargo complex. The facility will be equipped with two big cold stores for the storage and export of fruits and vegetables. Additionally, the International Cargo Terminal at Jaipur International Airport is also functional now, offering better air connectivity.
Moreover, in an attempt to offer better and affordable logistics support to the suppliers and manufacturers, the RajSIC is also looking for land near Phulera in Jaipur, to provide a rail passage to the traders.
