After a disastrous few weeks with the number of COVID cases peaking in the city, the tallies are now declining in Kanpur. A total of 784 fresh cases were reported on Thursday, in contrast to 1,202 detections on Wednesday. The new additions in the number of daily cases, have pushed the count of active cases in the city to a total of 11,675. Further, the condition of the city seems to be slightly better as 1,557 recoveries were reported yesterday while 7,734 vaccine doses have been administered as yet.

The inoculation drive running successfully along with high recovery rates, might indicate a bit of relief from the pandemic but the threat of the COVID infection still continues to loom. With 50 expiries in Kanpur on Thursday, the city and other UP districts continue to observe a high fatality ratio due the current COVID wave.
The officials in Kanpur have been taking constant measures to curb the threat imposed by the devastating COVID wave, which include extended curfew, creation of an oxygen bank and adding new features on the 'AYUSH Kavach' app to treat patients, amid other things. The Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) of IIT Kanpur has also proven to be of help to the city, with its efforts to ease the accessibility of medical-grade oxygen in the city.
