The Divisional Commissioner conducted an inspection recently at the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Airport to witness the progress of the upcoming terminal. This survey expanded over the models of pivotal construction work of the terminal and aircraft taxi area, including power, sewage, road and generator back-up. As per construction agency officials, about 25% of work has been completed here, while the remaining will be get completed by May this year. In view of this timeline, an airport official stated that commissioning of the airport could be planned in September 2021.

The construction agency affiliated to the Kanpur Airport has informed that the new terminal will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a parking bay with a 150-vehicle (4-wheeler) capacity. Besides this, the airport taxi area would be able to park the Airbus A 321 and two other aircraft, at any time. As per the project planning, the vehicle parking will get ready by March and civic-electric work has been slated for May.
An airport official stated that the connectivity of taxi-area and the runway is also under the development module and is most likely to be finished by March'21. The authorities will also send a report to the Director-General of Civil Aviation and the NOC can be expected by June or July. After this is obtained, the commissioning of the airport could be planned in September this year, the official added.
During the inspection, PWD officials discussed plans to boost the terminal connectivity. A four-lane road from the Airport to Prayagraj National Highway has been tabled, which is being reviewed and considered by the government presently. Air Commorade, who is supervising the budget and clearance of the same, stated that development of night landing facilities will launch here in June, with the government nod.
