UP Assembly Elections schedule released; Agra to vote on February 10!

Elections in India's most populous state to start in February 10

The Election Commission of India, on Saturday announced the schedule of 2022 Assembly elections in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, which is the most populous Indian state. A total of 403 Assembly constituencies are to go for polling in February. Uttar Pradesh is set to poll in 7 phases, with elections due to commence from February 10. The results for the same will be declared on March 10.

Agra to vote in Phase 1, on February 10, 2022

As Agra falls in Phase 1 of the schedule, the date of polling for Agra is 10 February 2022. Along with Agra, Shamli, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Hapur, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Mathura and Aligarh will also vote on the same day. All citizens above the age of 18 can exercise their right to vote and contribute in forming the Government.

Election Commission has also released a Model Code of Conduct (MCC) which comes into effect immediately from the announcement of schedules. No roadshows, padyatras, cycle or bike rallies and processions shall be allowed till 15th January in view rising Covid cases in the country. The situation will be reviewed and fresh instructions to be issued later.

The Chief Election Commissioner has also said, "It is mandatory for political parties to upload on their website detailed information regarding individuals with pending criminal cases selected as poll candidates and as to why this particular candidate was selected." Stressing that the aim of the Election Commission is to conduct Covid-safe elections in five states with maximum voter participation with extensive preparations. He also added that all polling stations will be equipped with Covid-mitigation facilities including sanitizers and masks, whereas the number of polling booths will also be increased.
