With a strong green motive to promote afforestation and change environmental scenarios, a brother duo from Kanpur's Birhar village has successfully cultivated as many as 3,000 unique trees and plants in their self-owned agricultural land.

The 12.50-acre land is now known as 'Life Garden' and boasts of multiple domestic and foreign varieties of fruit-bearing trees. Both brothers, Hari Mishra and Om Mishra were earlier employed in private sector companies until 2019. Inspired by a common vision of promoting green revolution and environmental conservation, they decided to quit their jobs and plant trees in their ancestral land which was lying redundant for many years.

Distinct international and domestic varieties of fruit-bearing trees

Life Garden consists of unique varieties of domestic and foreign fruit-bearing trees and plants which were sourced from Punjab. These include kinnow, local guava, orange, Indian bael, sweet lemon, Lahori lemon, Taiwanese guava, distinct varieties of mango, Malta, apple jujube, Thai jackfruit, pomegranate, American daisy tangerine, red malta (blood orange) and other trees.

Besides aiding environmental sustainability, the brothers are now able earn some revenue by selling the produce from their nursery.

Nursery features a unique crowd-farming approach

Life Garden is also aided by a unique crowd-farming campaign in which the people can adopt a tree in the nursery to get their name features along with it. More than 300 people have already taken part in this campaign which was promoted through social media posts.
