Kanpur, being the commercial capital of Uttar Pradesh, and a hub for leather, attracts a large number of air travellers from across India. In light of this, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had undertaken development of one more terminal at the Kanpur Airport.
And now, within a span of one year, the construction of a new terminal building at Kanpur Airport has been completed and is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister on May 26.
Built over an approximate area of 6,248 sqm, the new terminal of the civil enclave is designed to process 300 passengers during the peak hours. The Four-Star GRIHA rated energy efficient building will host sustainable features, and also reflect local art and heritage inspired by city’s famous JK Temple. With eight check-in counters, three conveyor belts and a parking space for as many as 150 cars, the new terminal has been assembled at a cost of almost ₹143.6 crore.
Situated in Chakeri, the airport is at a distance of 10 km from Kanpur, and serves as an airport not only to Kanpur but Unnao, Etawah, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur and Fatehpur also.
