Work remains in full swing at the Baradevi to Naubasta elevated section of 23 km-long Corridor-1 of the Kanpur Metro Project and now, with it, begins the construction of U-girders for the same. At the moment, some 5 kms of the aforementioned section is under development.
These girders are supposed to be cemented at the casting yard in Naubasta, which is spread over an area of some five hectares of land. It comprises two beds for preparation of the girders.
Herein, casting of U-girders was inaugurated. Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation confirmed the "inauguration of U-girder construction for Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section of Kanpur Metro by Sushil Kumar, MD, UPMRC."
U-girders are, basically, precast and pre-tensioned U-shaped girders on which a track can be made. Precast structures speed up construction work.
"The girders will be ready at the casting yard located in Naubasta. The MD also inspected the tunnel construction work of Bara Chauraha to Nayaganj underground section," UPMRC added.
After construction of the civil structures at the casting yard, they will be tested on the parameters of safety and quality and then transported to the construction site, if found apt.
This is the second elevated section of Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) of Kanpur Metro Project, following the 9 km-long and currently operational priority section from IIT to Motijheel.
The elevated metro section will have five stations, namely, Baradevi, Vasant Vihar, Kidwai Nagar, Buddh Nagar, and Naubasta.
