Over the years, EVs have become increasingly common on Indian roads. The consensus is that when it comes to sustainability, EVs have to be the go-to choice. However, an IIT Kanpur study has found things to be slightly different, stating that Hybrid vehicles are a better option when it comes to sustainability, better than both EVs and ICEs.

EVs = Sustainability | IIT Kanpur study differs

Contrary to popular opinion, a study by IIT Kanpur study has found the eco-friendly image of EVs to be more about marketing than scientific facts. The study looked at several factors related to the manufacturing process of EVs, ICEs, and Hybrid vehicles.

The study found that EVs and ICEs might be a little more harmful to the environment as compared to Hybrid vehicles. Moving into the numbers, EVs can release up to 15-50% more greenhouse gas than Hybrid vehicles, during their manufacturing process.

Another revelation in the study was that authorities in India and abroad, do not offer substantial incentives to hybrid vehicles. This is the reason why hybrid vehicles turn out to be way more expensive for the commoners and they prefer EVs, instead.
