Ushering new adventures for the city folks, the boat club set up at Kanpur's Ganga Barrage will start operations soon. Reportedly, the facility received 21 boats on Tuesday and over 30 more will be stationed there by the end of August. Though the boat club was established in 2019, operations were awaited due to the delay in the delivery of boats. Now, it can be expected that the centre will start functioning soon and the city will have new avenues for water sports.

The regional commissioner and the secretary of the boat club together inspected the development at the facility. As per reports, the latest fleet of boats has been introduced with an objective to amplify resources for water sports competitions and the training of individuals. Once complete services are commenced at this centre, a new dimension will be added to Kanpur's development. Besides, the Ganga Barrage will also become witness to multiple religious and cultural attractions.
Reportedly, it is expected that a 5-day Ganga water rally will be organised from Kanpur to Prayagraj in February 2022. Further, it is anticipated that national water sports tournaments will soon be a reality in Kanpur.

As per reports, a 2-member committee has been formed to maintain and administer the facility, which includes the secretary of the boat club. Reportedly, the project was proposed by a Kanpur Development Authority official in 2007 and it was stated that the Tourism Department, Government of India, would fund it.
Later, the plan shifted towards funding from regional resources in 2010. Reports state that the development of this facility was included in the Botanical Garden project in 2014 and the Irrigation Department was responsible for instituting it. Traversing a long way, the project got finalised when the boat club was registered in 2016 and the construction work got complete in 2019.
