The second wave of the COVID contagion has wreaked havoc in multiple districts of Uttar Pradesh and Kanpur remains to be one of the most affected cities. With the highest-ever count of 2,316 new infections detected on Tuesday, the active cases inched closer to the 18k-mark, standing at 17,914. Tagged at the third spot in the list of the state's worst-hit districts, Kanpur has witnessed a cumulative count of 64,059 COVID-affected individuals.

As a direct consequence of inflating infection rates, Kanpur's death toll has also increased alarmingly in the recent past. After the largest recorded figure of 28 deaths on Monday, 15 more fatalities were registered in the city on Tuesday. With these spikes, the net death figure surpassed the 1.1k mark, reaching 1,105.
On the brighter side, the number of recoveries has increased continuously and 1,797 individuals got recovered from the COVID virus on Tuesday. In order to control this crisis situation, repeated measures are being deployed to dampen infection rates and augment the city's medical infrastructure.

While the month of April has witnessed an accelerated hike in infection rates, the count of vaccinated beneficiaries has also improved significantly through streamlined measures by the health officials and administrative authorities. On April 4, the highest count of 25,330 vaccines jabs was given to the residents in Kanpur and over 3,27,539 doses have been given till now.
