Started as a healthcare centre for children after the Indian Independence, the hospital fell victim to negligence over a period of time and it had to be closed thereafter. Now, the facility will be revived to provide treatment to the infected kids and the officials have been asked to ready the infrastructure as soon as possible. Slated to be reformed in a phased manner, the hospital has the capacity to house a total of 300 beds, as per reports.
In order to make a note of the current situation, the authorities from IIT Kanpur, Kanpur Municipal Corporation and PWD surveyed the building on Friday. While the building was found to be in decent condition, IIT Kanpur will prepare a detailed report on its status within 15 days. Further, it has been reported that the hospital will be developed at an estimated cost of more than ₹4 crores.

Reportedly, the hospital will be made functional at an approximate cost of ₹5-10 lakhs in the first phase. Later, oxygen beds and PICU beds will be added in the second and the third phase, respectively. Reportedly, a committee of expert doctors under the leadership of the GSVM college principal is preparing a comprehensive list regarding the necessities of the new hospital. It shall entail a detailed account of staff, ventilators, BiPAP machines and other equipment required at the hospital.
As per reports, the hospital requires a staff of over 100 people for operating 50 beds. This includes 5 pediatric doctors along with paramedical staff, lab technicians, data operators and other employees. As of now, the hospital was being used as a record room for the municipality so its rooms need to be vacated first.
