The journey along Kanpur-Prayagraj road is set to become costlier, with plans underway to increase the toll tax on the route by atleast 50% or upto 60%. The increased toll tax, which is expected be levied from April 1, comes as part of NHAI's plans to raise the toll rates on highways in Delhi, Lucknow, Jhansi and Prayagraj.
A senior official from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) also stated that toll tax on the Kanpur-Prayagraj route has not been hiked since 2019. It is noteworthy that work on changing the Chakeri-Allahabad highway into a 6-lane road is also nearing completion. In view of the ongoing upgradation, an increase in toll tax is an attempt to ensure financial viability of the project.
