With an aim to elevate the state economy, a multimodal logistics park is slated to be constructed in Uttar Pradesh's industrial hub, Kanpur, by the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL). The park, to be built for cargo handling and movement, will be the fourth of its kind in UP.
Expected to be constructed within 2 years, the mega logistics park will be located near Rooma Railway Station, some 20 kms from Kanpur. A logistics park is, basically, an industrial area meant for storage, management, transportation and distribution of cargo and goods.
15 million tonnes of goods are expected to be handled here annually once the construction is complete, Director of Operations and Business Development, DFCCIL, Nanduri Srinivas said.
The logistics park will, supposedly, both help reduce transportation costs and bolster the One District One Product initiative. The three other mega logistical hubs are located in Dadri, developed by Container Corporation of India, National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation, and the Adani group, respectively.
