A massive cleanliness campaign for the elimination of dumping zones in the urban/suburban districts of Uttar Pradesh is currently underway. Under this, Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) will be turning all the garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) into selfie points. The KMC officials have marked as many as 112 big dumping areas and 258 small dumpsters.

Garbage spaces to be cleaned and allotted to small-scale vendors

The GVPs which have been identified in the city are being beautified and converted into selfie points. For this, KMC is cleaning the spaces and furnishing them by drawing murals on the nearby walls, planting trees/placing flower pots and adding benches for senior citizens. Some of the spaces will also be put to public use as KMC will allot them to small-scale vendors.

The district authorities have also started working on the beautification of such points in all 6 wards of the city. With this, 4 GVPs in Kanpur have already been beautified and developed as selfie points.

Public awareness campaign to eliminate open dumping

In compliance with the initiative, a public awareness campaign was also carried out in the presence of District Municipal Commissioner, Shivasharanappa G.N. and KMC Mayor, Pramila Pandey. This campaign included the organization of a street play on the related matter which was proceeded by a public address from the officials.

The state government cleanliness initiative is being carried out across Uttar Pradesh and is said to cover 750 civic bodies in 75 districts for 75 hours.
