During a recent working committee meeting of the KMC, chaired by Mayor Pramila Pandey, a proposal was put forth to effectively monitor and minimize water wastage from households utilizing submersible pumps in Kanpur.

The plan encompasses mandatory installation of meters in conjunction with submersible pumps. Additionally, citizens intending to install a pump in their households will be obligated to obtain a license from the authority.

KMC to charge tax from houses which overuse water through submersible pumps

Many households in the city opt to utilize their private groundwater supply instead of relying on municipal water lines. This practice is facilitated through the use of electric submersible pumps (ESP), which enable efficient and rapid drainage.

Nevertheless, this arrangement poses long-term challenges, such as a significant depletion of the groundwater level and the excessive consumption of essential water resources.

Now, after the successful implementation of the proposal, KMC will be able to monitor the water usage via the submersible pump meters. Furthermore, households that exceed a monthly water consumption of 1000 liters, may be subjected to the imposition of a tax.
