Under the aegis of the One Station-One Product (OSOP) scheme, 19 railway stations between Lucknow and Varanasi Junctions will get new outlets that will exhibit and sell handicraft items and indigenous products of their regions.
Reportedly, the scheme is being launched to provide a boost to the small enterprises and preserve traditional craftsmenship. Furthermore, the Lucknow and Varanasi junctions will have two such Indigenous product outlets while the other stations will have one outlet each.
Carrying a distinguished appearance, these outlets will be fashioned in the form of a cart so as to draw the attention of the travellers. The students of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad will design the carts.
Items such as Lucknow's Chikankari products, wooden toys of Varanasi, amla products of Pratapgarh, Moonj products of Amethi, Unnao's leather products and jaggery products of Ayodhya will be sold in these outlets.
In case the initiative draws multiple tenders, the vendors will be selected by the means of a lottery, post which the selected vendor will be required to pay a sum of ₹6000 as token amount.
Moreover, the sellers will be allotted these spaces for a term of 3 months after which they will be required to hand over the space to other person.
Railway stations between Lucknow Varanasi witness huge footfalls daily and the showcasing of indigenous products here, will help in increasing their popularity. Via the OSOP scheme, the creators will get an additional platform to bring their products to the masses, helping them generate income to support their families and keep the traditions alive.
