The education department has restarted admissions under the Right To Education (RTE) and is now inviting applications. Through this, students from economically weaker backgrounds will be able to study in private schools, pushing forward the ideal of inclusive education for all.
As per the schedule, the RTE admissions for the academic session 2023-24 will be carried out in three phases. Admission process in the first phase will begin from March 2 and go on till March 25.
To apply, students have to register online before February 28.
After the first admission cohort ending sometime around March 25, the rest of the phases will follow. While the second phase will occur from April 5-May 5, the third phase will take place between May 2-June 10.
Results from the lottery for initial two phases will be announced on March 30 and April 28, respectively. While that of the third phase will be declared on June 15. The admission process is deemed to wrap up by June 30.
Awareness drives by the government are also in the plans, in order to encourage eligible students' parents to participate in the admission process.
Under The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, students coming from financially weak strata are given the opportunity to study without any fees till class 8 in private schools. Herein, the state government bears expenses of the education. Admission takes place through lottery and the fixed quota of chosen applicants is 25%.
Every private school, as a rule, has to accept the fixed number of students (2-5), and there must be no discrimination meted out to them. Treating all children equally is the basic right and schools must abide by the same.
