In a bid to bolster security measures in UP, the state government has resolved to enhance the authority of security personnel. As part of this initiative, the UP Special Security Force will be outfitted with advanced equipment.

This decision comes with subsequent financial approval, aimed at provisioning the force with high-capacity firearms and state-of-the-art defensive gear.

Firearms and gear to be procured for UPSSF before Mar 31

UPSSF is tasked with safeguarding crucial government edifices, offices, and industrial complexes across Uttar Pradesh. It was formed in September 2020, following the enactment of the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force Act, 2020.

Presently, UPSSF comprises five battalions, with the first battalion entrusted with overseeing security along Lucknow's Metro corridor. The remaining four battalions are strategically stationed in cities such as Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Mathura and Saharanpur, amplifying security coverage across the state.

As part of an extensive procurement plan, the government will acquire 465 automatic pistols, 1113 submachine guns, 330 assault rifles, 500 BR jackets, 500 BR helmets, 1714 polycarbonate shields, and 2025 polycarbonate batons for the UPSSF. The deadline for the complete procurement of this arsenal is March 31.

Outfitting the forces with these state-of-the-art firearms will significantly enhance their capabilities, enabling them to effectively counter emerging security threats and safeguard the populace with greater efficiency.
