The heatwaves are on an all-high, thanks to global warming, and if humans are finding it difficult to survive them, the wildlife, too, is in need of care. Thus, the Lucknow Zoo has introduced numerous arrangements to keep its animals protected.

In an effort to aid them amidst the rising mercury, air coolers have been installed in various animal enclosures at Lucknow's Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden. Apart from the coolers, a change in the diet has also been implemented since last month. This includes the incorporation of seasonal fruits and multivitamins in the animals' diet.

Other measures taken to beat the heat

Besides dietary changes, fresh water supply and sprinklers, and khus (a type of aromatic grass) mats have been added to provide effective cooling to the animals. Moreover, green screens, to block the heat, have been installed in certain enclosures. The overall objective of the exercise is to protect the wildlife from heat strokes and maintain immunity.

The average temperature in Lucknow has been well above 41 degree Celsius, with the afternoon peaking at 45 degree Celsius in general. In such conditions, it is crucial for all to take measures to beat the rising heat.
