The UP state government is now planning to set up a new autonomous commission for selecting teachers in basic, secondary, higher and technical institutions in UP districts, including Lucknow and Kanpur. The dedicated commission which is to be formed will be termed 'Uttar Pradesh Shiksha Seva Chayan Ayog' (Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission).

The body will also be responsible for conducting the UP Teachers Eligibility Test (UPTET) for appointing faculties in most of the government institutions.

Who will be part of the selection commission?

The formation of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission as a unified and consolidated entity for selecting teachers is aimed at achieving a more efficient and timely selection process.

Reportedly, the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission will be composed of eminent senior judges and experienced educators as members, with a designated chairperson leading the commission. Moreover, other backward classes, scheduled castes/tribes, women and minorities would also be represented in this commission.

The commission will work towards streamlining the selection process for teachers

The commission will be responsible for formulating guidelines related to the direct recruitment of teachers. Additionally, the commission will provide recommendations to the relevant appointing authorities regarding the appointment of candidates who have successfully completed the selection process, including selection tests and interviews.

Resultingly, this integrated commission is expected to provide significant benefits in terms of streamlining the selection process for teachers.
