After the penalising surge of the pandemic, Uttar Pradesh has fallen prey to the horrors of the black fungus. So far, about 506 Mucormycosis cases have been lodges across the state, where capital Lucknow is dealing with the highest share of 160 infections. As per reports, the state has recorded around 19 related deaths as yet.

Amid the rising threat of black fungus infection as a successive threat in COVID-19 patient and its integrated treatment, the Uttar Pradesh administration of Friday declared the complication as a notifiable disease. The fungal infection is spreading across the state and has been recorded across 66 state health centres, the Health Department reports highlighted.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the administration at Lucknow's King George's Medical University (KGMU) stated that they dealing with 124 cases of black fungus. Besides the Medical University, RMLIMS with 14 cases and Chandan Hospital with 16 cases are actively fighting the perils of Mucormycosis in Lucknow.

In addition to these, the Super Speciality Hospital, Burns and Trauma Centre and Era's Lucknow Medical College and Hospital have also emerged as significant treatment units against the fungal spread. These centres are dealing with 5 and 1 cases of black fungus, respectively.
The statewide report lists UP's Meerut division next to Lucknow, in terms of infection spread, with 115 Mucormycosis cases. This index further includes Ghaziabad with 46 cases, Gautam Buddha Nagar with 23 cases along with 17 infections in Varanasi and 10 in Agra. Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur and Bareilly line up next, with 8 cases each.
