Booking hostel rooms at Lucknow Uni becomes hassle-free with new online management portal

Students will now be able to check info on fees collection and hostel room allotment on the portal.

In a step towards digital transparency, the city's eminent Lucknow University has come up with a new online hostel management system. The online portal, launched on September 10, is expected to manage details like the data of students staying at the hostels, list of hostels, fees collection, room allotment, and so on.

LU currently has 17 hostels with approximately 2,500 students. The 18th hostel is under construction and is supposed to be completed soon. The latter will hold 200 more students. In such a situation, where the number of students is only growing, the move was a much-needed one as it will save students from making multiple visits to the campus and will also help the admin maintain records, digitally!

The expected differences

Earlier, the students had to physically apply to get a room at the hostels. After completing the online admission process, the applicants had to submit written letters, wait at the university for approval and then get a room. Not to forget, hostel seats were and will still be allotted based on the merit and reservation.

However, with this move, the process will be paperless. Introduced for the first time in the university, applicants can simply book their rooms on the online portal now. The users can also report grievances here, if any.

Dean (Students Welfare) Professor Poonam Tandon shared, "The system will make the process very convenient for both students and the admin. Now, the applicants will receive one e-mail and they will know about the status."

"We've received some 700 applications in two days, and the number is shooting quickly," she added.

Hostel - one click away

With this, getting a seat at the LU hostel will now be merely a click away. The manual and staff work will also, predictably, reduce.

“Overall, the hostel management system will help in keeping an organised record of all students using the hostel facility through the hostel management software,” an official said.

The hostel management system will not only aid in improving the university facilities, but also step further towards digital advancement.
