Charbagh railway station to get a facelift; Foot over bridges, lifts, escalators & more planned

Northern Railways have announced plans for a thorough redevelopment of the famous Charbagh railway station in Lucknow. The railway station will see a slew of upgrades including segregation of arrival and departure, installation of new lifts and escalators, construction of foot-over bridges and more. So, here's what you need to know about the station redevelopment.

Redevelopment on the lines of green building concept 

The design opted for the redevelopment of Lucknow railway station will be in line with the life cycle cost minimization approach, following a green building concept. Furthermore, the back gate to the station, near Manyawar Kanshi Ram Sthal, will be given a modern architectural appearance, while the main entrance of the iconic station will still retain its heritage look.

As per initial reports, the redevelopment project for Charbagh railway station is expected to cost around ₹494 crore and a target of July 2025 has been set to get all the upgrades ready. The said project is part of a bigger plan to revamp several UP railway stations. Recently, an announcement to redevelop the Gorakhpur railway station at a cost of ₹612 crore, was also made.
