Lucknowites can expect certain promptness in the numerous ongoing beautification and infrastructural development projects in the city. These projects are related to Public Works Department (PWD), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), airports and railways.
A recent review showed that while some of the aforementioned are nearing completion, others have picked up pace. Here's all you need to know about some of the major undertakings.
Of the aforementioned, the Lucknow Ring Road project is progressing at a smooth speed. The 104-km national highway is an 8-lane wide road project which is underway.
Also called National Highway 230 (NH 230), the road project has been divided by NHAI into two cohorts under different packages. Herein, package-1 (covering approx 31 kms from Sultanpur road to Behta road) is said to be 94% complete. While the stretch between Behta Road and Sitapur Road (Package-2) is 64% complete, the Sitapur to Kursi Road stretch is 99.56% culminated. On the other hand, the Kursi-Ayodhya Road stretch is now 100% finished.
Moreover, the PWD has accomplished 31% work on a flyover at Munshipulia intersection and 36% construction of an elevated road at Khurramnagar intersection.
The Outer Ring Road will become a connecting route to the city for some 104 villages (budgeted at Rs 5,500 crore).
Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) is undergoing development and expansion, aiming at augmenting aircraft movements and accommodating increased passenger capacity.
The plan is to increase the yearly capacity from the present 43 lakh to 1.37 crore flyers. Similarly, the peak-hour traveller handling capacity will surge from 1,000 to 4,000 passengers.
The new terminal also plans to bring about some changes and fresh facilities like a dedicated VIP door, a skywalk at Terminal 3 to connect the same to the metro station, among others.
Another significant development is the revamping of the Gomti Nagar Railway Station. The redevelopment, currently in full swing, is budgeted at ₹377 crore.
The project's first phase is expected to culminate by December. While 75% work has been achieved on its North Terminal building, 10% construction has been completed on both the South Terminal building and Concourse. Additionally, 70% work on the flyover along with 40% work on the utility building has been completed here.
