Uttar Pradesh is gradually taking centre stage when it comes to focusing on connectivity. Be it the newly declared State Capital Region or the new and enhanced routes across the state, a lot is coming up.
Talking about some fresh routes around the capital, we've compiled this list of upcoming expressways in and around Lucknow. From reducing travel time between major UP cities to enabling better economic cooperation, these 6 new projects promise a lot.
Touted to be India's second largest of its kind, Uttar Pradesh's Ganga Expressway is all set to completed by December 2024. Currently, the goal is to finish the work on the expressway before Mahakumbh 2025. The expressway, which will span across 594 km, will enhance connectivity between Eastern and Western Uttar Pradesh.
Current Status: To be completed by December 2024
Undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the upcoming Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway will reduce the travel time between the two cities to just 45-50 mins. Passing through a total of 42 villages in Lucknow and Unnao, the work on this 6-lane expressway is going on in full swing.
Current Status: To be completed by March/April 2025
Right above this one, we talked about the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway which will reduce the travel time between the two cities to just 45 minutes. Add this planned 380 km Noida-Kanpur Expressway into the mix and the travel time between Noida and Lucknow will also be significantly reduced.
Together, these two expressways will allow vehicles to complete the 7-hour Noida-Lucknow journey in just 4-5 hours.
Current Status: To become operational by 2026
Stretching across 91 km, this 4-lane expressway will connect Gorakhpur and Azamgarh. Additionally, it will also link up with the Purvanchal Expressway, ensuring a more convenient route and reduced travel time between Lucknow and Gorakhpur. This much-awaited expressway also promises huge economic boost in the region.
Current Status: To be ready in the next 3-4 months
Currently, vehicles have to go through the traffic within Lucknow while trying to go from the Purvanchal Expressway to Agra Expressway. To make it more convenient, a link expressway is in plans which will allow people to skip the traffic and travel to and fro between the two expressways.
Current Status: In the proposal stage
The recent announcement of the Union Budget 2024-25 has amped up the optimism around the Buxar-Bhagalpur expressway. This new expressway will not only cut the travel time between Buxar and Bhagalpur to four hours but will also bring down the same for Patna-Lucknow to 5-6 hours and Bhagalpur-Lucknow to 8-9 hours.
