The Uttar Pradesh state government has doubled the protection against COVID-19 after the UK reported a new strain of coronavirus. The state administration has issued an alert in the state, monitoring the situation closely to prevent any rapid rise in the number of infections. The Chief Minister has directed officials to continue with intense testing, tracking and treatment of COVID-19 infected patients, adding that there should be no laxity in ensuring absolute imposition of safety protocols against the further spread.

As the world steps into what can be termed as a new battle against the pandemic, the Additional Chief Secretary has informed that the Uttar Pradesh government has sounded an alert over the reports of the new COVID strain and is closely keeping track on the whole situation. "Already, the government has stopped all flights from the UK as a precautionary measure, while the Uttar Pradesh government was also monitoring the situation. We appeal to the people not to let down their guard and continue to follow all safety protocols," he said.

New troubles brought in by a new strain of coronavirus!

The new mutated COVID strain has already plagued South and East England, who reported a rapid surge in the number of new infections in the last week. As per reports, multiple mutations in the strain of the already existing COVID-19 strain has given rise to this new variant, which is being referred to as VUI (Variant Under Investigation) 202012/01, or the B.1.1.7 lineage. Preliminary analysis has revealed that this strain is more transmissible than previously circulating strains of the novel coronavirus.

According to the statement issued by the UK Prez, there is no evidence that this easily-transmissible strain is any more ferocious, or morbid than the already existing one(s). Adding further, he stated that the new variant will remain under scrutiny and investigations, regarding its mortality and severity, over the coming weeks.
