In order to curb online crime, the Uttar Pradesh government has directed educational institutions to establish cyber clubs. UP schools and colleges will, thence, hold various activities like organising workshops, interactive and creative sessions, seminars, as part of club curriculum.
The clubs will also be expected to present case studies frequently, organise poster making, slogan writing, share best practices, and more to spread awareness around cyber safety.
In the context, a state government spokesman stated, "In view of increasing incidents of cybercrimes, it is important to spread awareness among the youth who can lead from the front and help prevent the same."
The students, through the clubs, will be taught shutting down of their PCs properly, the importance of installation and maintenance of up to date antivirus software, updating the internet browser, and recognising any unusual computer activities.
Awareness will also be dissipated around significance of changing passwords often, being careful of receiving/opening e-mails from unverified sources, against joining unknown Wi-Fi networks, against connecting to unsecured hotspots, sharing content on social media, etc. In the process, students will be taught how to use profiles with powerful privacy settings and more such vital information.
