With the intention of ensuring better healthcare for infants, seven new neonatal intensive care units (NICU) will come up in medical colleges and hospitals across Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow's Ram Sagar Mishra Hospital will get one unit while the NICU at the city's KGMU will be equipped with modern technology, including phototherapy.

Existing NICUs in UP will also be bolstered

For the establishment of said NICUs, a budget of Rs 12 Lakh each has already been assigned by the National Health Mission (NHM). Furthermore, a budget of Rs 25 Lakh has also been allocated for the purchase of equipment to hospitals in Hapur and Lucknow hospitals.

Apart from Lucknow and Hapur, the new NICUs will be set up in medical colleges in Ayodhya, Badaun, Banda, Basti and Azamgarh. In addition to this, 66 new beds will be added to NICUs in nine Uttar Pradesh districts, with 8 such beds being added to the existing unit in Queen Mary's Hospital, which is part of Lucknow's King George Medical University (KGMU).
