Expansion work on Lucknow Airport’s runway to kickstart soon

Reportedly, the expansion work will facilitate easier movement and landing of heavy aircrafts at the airport

The airport authority of Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is all set to increase the length of the runway soon. As per reports, the 2740-metre long runway at the erstwhile Amausi airport will now be extended by 300 meters. With the construction work expected to begin soon, this initiative by the authority will make the landing strip cross the 3-kilometre mark.

According to the reports, the length of the runway is being increased to facilitate easier movement and landing of heavy aircrafts. Post this expansion work, direct flights from Europe and America are expected to start from Lucknow as well. Notably, the original proposal to increase the length of the runway at Amausi airport was set at 800 metres, however, it is now finally set at 300 metres. For this project, around 54 acre of land is likely to be purchased soon.

Keeping in mind the increase in footfall in the next ten years, the airport authority is initiating various upgradation work at Lucknow airport. Apart from this expansion project, construction work for the new terminal T-3 at the airport is also underway. Reportedly, around 55 lakh passengers used to travel through the airport every year, before COVID had hit the world. As things are moving back to normal now, the footfall at the airport is increasing too.
