In a bid to provide a streamlined access between two of the most prominent cities of Uttar Pradesh, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is working on developing a 6-lane expressway between Lucknow and Kanpur.
Until now, commuting between the adjacent cities has been taking anywhere between one and a half to three hours. However, with the impending completion of the new route, the travel time will be significantly reduced to a mere 35 minutes. The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway will have a total length of 63 km, which will comprise an 18 km elevated stretch, while the remaining 45 km will be a green field route.
The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway will also be connected to the Shaheed Path in Lucknow and the Ganga, Expressway with the objective of mitigating traffic on the city networks.
Furthermore, the aforementioned route will also facilitate the passage from Shaheed Path in Lucknow to Nawabganj, subsequently extending towards Banthra, Bani, Datouli and Kantha, ultimately leading to Kanpur.
The development of this expressway, which is one of the six identified greenfield expressway projects proposed under the Bharatmala Project Phase-1 of the Ministry of Road Transports and Highways in India. In addition, the construction of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
