In a bid to give an upgrade to the government schools in UP, the government here has launched a rather inclusive and dynamic programme called the 'Operation Kayakalp'. The project deems it important for all Commissioners, District Magistrates and MPs, MLAs along with government & public representatives to adopt and facelift government schools. As per reports, a directive in this regard was issued by Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra post the launch of the state's 'School Chalo Abhiyan' on April 4.

Towards quality education in UP

Senior officials have been given the onus to adopt government schools in UP, in a bid to improve their condition, under the project 'Operation Kayakalp'. As the name suggests, this facelift programme will begin with officials of authority taking charge of a school and then improving its amenities, from textbooks to atmosphere and then administration, to upgrade the basic education system.

The directive issued by the CS not only mandates all commissioners, DMs and other persons of authority to not only take charge of a school but also urges them to motivate gazetted officers working with them to take initiative too. Reportedly, a copy of the letter has been sent to all additional chief secretaries and principal secretaries asking them to adopt a school for giving children better provisions for a brighter tomorrow. Besides, district magistrates have also been asked to provide the list of schools adopted by officers at the block level to the government through the basic education officers (BSAs) in the next 15 days.

Noteworthily, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Chiranjeev Nath Singh from Lucknow is one of the first officers to adopt a school in the city, earlier this month.
