On Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh government announced that if there is a shortage of beds in government hospitals, the treatment of COVID-19 patients will be done at a private hospital and the government will provide full reimbursement. Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal, stated that hospitals have been asked not to turn away patients and any establishment caught in the act, will be penalised.

The ACS further added, "In case there are no beds available in government hospitals, the patients will be sent to a private hospital and the state government will reimbursement the entire cost of treatment." This will come as a major financial respite, for all those who are struggling to meet their medical expenses and are in need of immediate COVID care. It is also to be noted that the cost of COVID-19 treatment has also been capped, in case a person wishes to visit a private hospital directly.
Earlier in the day, the official account of CM office, UP also tweeted this. However, full guidelines are still awaited.
It is to be noted that treatment in all state government hospitals is already free for all citizens.
