Indore has emerged as a pioneer of civic cleanliness by topping the Swachh Sarvekshan for four years in succession and now, it has taken the task of elevating Ayodhya to the standards of being a global spiritual tourism destination. The Indian Institute of Management and Ayodhya's municipal authority, MCA have entered into a three-year agreement to chalk out a plan of action to re-model, replicate and implement 'Indore cleanliness model' to suit the requirements of the holy city, Ayodhya.

IIM Indore and Municipal Corporation Ayodhya have collaborated, by the authority of an MoU, to install a 'swachh enhancement mechanism' in the city which will follow the footsteps of Indore Municipal Corporation to implement cleanliness in Ayodhya. Set in motion to establish world-class standards of spiritual tourism in Ayodhya, the programme will adopt the best cleanliness practices of the IMC.

The MoU, signed by IIM-I director Prof. Himanshu Rai and Ayodhya's municipal commissioner has encapsulated the provisions of drafting a plan for implementation of information, education and communication, as per the Centre's flagship campaign of Swachh Bharat Mission. As per the agreement, the two bodies will join forces to organise training and capacity building programmes for employees of Ayodhya Municipal Corporation. This will be apart from training programmes in project management and best practices for the civic officials.

"Work has already begun for making a detailed action plan to develop the birthplace of Lord Ram as the cleanest spiritual tourism destination in the world," said a government spokesman. As per reports, IIM will conduct a base-line study in the UP district and establish a tailor-made set-up.

Development to boost tourism in UP

Uttar Pradesh has ranked number one in the country in terms of the inflow of domestic tourists in 2019 and this year, the state government has buckled up to outdo itself as a host to retain its No.1 position in India. The swachh enhancement mechanism too, is an attempt to boost the state's efforts to increase its popularity among tourists and develop state-of-the-art practices of cleanliness in the Ayodhya district.
