Along with the extensive annual plantation drives, UP is slowly advancing towards the betterment of the environmental ecosystem of the state. Prioritizing sustainability and eco-friendly measures, the state government aims to reverse the long-term damages which have been inflicted upon the environment due to rapid urbanization.
In a similar move, the Uttar Pradesh government will plant as many as 35 crore trees this year, as part of the state government's annual plantation drive. The target is similar to last year's, and the trees will be planted in most of the UP districts including Lucknow and Kanpur.
Reportedly, the preparations for the massive plantation will commence in the month of March for which the saplings will be grown in the nurseries.
Last year, around 25.5 crore saplings were planted in a single day under the 'Vriksharopan Janandolan 2022'. As per the UP's Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, the government aims to increase the state's green cover to 15 per cent by 2030. This will not only aid the biodiversity and the natural reserves of the state but will also help in tackling several environmental woes such as climate change, increased air pollution etc.
