In an attempt to reduce carbon emissions and pave the way for renewable energy, all 17 municipal civic bodies in UP will be now developed as 'Solar Cities'. In view of this vision, massive investments have already been made in Ayodhya to build a 40MW solar power plant on 165 acres of land.

Apart from Ayodhya, the places where these solar plants will come up include Kanpur, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Ghaziabad, Firozabad, Bareilly, Aligarh, Agra, Prayagraj, Moradabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Varanasi, Shahjahanpur, Saharanpur, and Mathura-Vrindavan.

Furthermore, once the 17 civic bodies are developed into Solar Cities, the government will shift its focus on building solar villages on the same pattern.
