Now, patients can expect better breast and cervical cancer treatment facilities in Uttar Pradesh with the UP Health Department collaborating with private firms with the objective of extending the screening facility in all districts.
Patients will be able to avail the screening facility through district women hospitals and certain medical colleges. The State Principal Secretary (Health), Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma, shared, "Timely intervention in diagnosing the two kinds of cancers can save lives besides saving women from suffering. The government would also roll out vaccine of cervical cancer for teenaged girls through the routine immunisation programme."
Early or timely detection in breast cancer (a condition where breast cells grow abnormally) and cervical cancer (a type of cancer occurring in the cells of the cervix) cases can lead to prevention, saving countless lives. The malignant tumour of the cervix can be prevented by PAP smear screening and an HPV vaccine.
According to statistics, some 1.5% women in the state have undergone cervical cancer screening tests.
