Assuming a strict stance towards women being called to the police station for questioning, UP DGP DS Chauhan has said that strict action will be taken against law and order officials found to be continuing with such practices.
It must be noted that according to a directive given to states and UT administrations by the Hon'ble Supreme Court, women, minors, senior citizens (those above 65 years of age), and people with disabilities can't be questioned anywhere except their residence.
It is also incumbent on law and order officials to ensure that even while questioning a minor at his or her residence, a guardian along with the child welfare officer needs to be present. State DGP's latest warning is a strict reminder to officials across the state to follow these directives at all costs.
