Bringing a sigh of relief for the residents in Uttar Pradesh, the COVID positivity rate in the state recorded the lowest-ever figure of 0.3%, on Thursday. While 1,268 new infections were recorded in the state, the tallies in Lucknow remained below 100 for the 4th consecutive day and 75 fresh cases were registered on June 2. Notably, the active tally in the territory has contracted significantly and the positivity rate oscillated around 0.5% over the past few days.

A government representative said, "UP has been on the forefront of COVID testing. Case positivity rate for past 24 hours was in fact 0.3 per cent which is an all-time low." He further mentioned that the quick diagnosis and isolation have been conducive to breaking the chain of infections. Additionally, he mentioned the improved positivity rate in the state carries optimistic insights for the future.
It is noteworthy that case positivity rate is the ratio of samples that test positive out of the total pool of collected samples. This helps in deciphering the state of the pandemic at any place, at a given time. As per the official records, an average of 3 lakh tests have been conducted in the past few days and 3,40,411 samples were examined in the past 24 hours.

Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) health and family welfare Amit Mohan Prasad said, "As on date, UP's cumulative case positivity is around 3.4 per cent, which is way less than the figure of 18 per cent recorded at peak." He also informed that the state has 25,546 active cases presently and the recovery rate has moved up to 97.3%. While 4,260 recoveries were marked in the state on Thursday, 282 indiviudals in Lucknow won their battle against the virus on the same day.
On the grim side, a total of 108 fatatlities were recorded in the state on Thursday while the capital city's death count ticked up by 3. As of now, a cumulative figure of 16,95,212 individuals have been affected by the contagion in Uttar Pradesh and 20,895 of these have lost their lives to the fatal virus.
