LMC to convert vacant govt. buildings, marriage lawns to makeshift night shelters in Lucknow

Lucknow Municipal Corporation has devised a new plan to ensure safety of the homeless people in the city, during the harsh winter season. Presently, there are 17 permanent and 7 makeshift night shelters in Lucknow. LMC now aims to increase this number by converting vacant government buildings and marriage lawns in Lucknow into temporary night shelters.

Recently, the authorities also released a helpline number for general public, using which they could inform about the whereabouts of the stranded individuals and get them shifted to the night shelters.

LMC to also ensure availability of additional amenities in shelters

Besides ensuring the availability of more and more shelters, LMC authorities have also equipped these facilities with necessary amenities including blankets, comfortable beds, medical kits and hot water.

Furthermore, a dedicated helpline number has also been started for the registration of complaints and requests and for providing information regarding the night shelters. Along with this LMC has identified 860 points to light up bonfires for safeguarding individuals from the cold weather.

The move is expected to aid daily wage labourers and homeless individuals during the cold temperatures.
