In an attempt to progress its ranking in this year's Swachh Bharat Mission, Lucknow is all set to follow the lead of the Cleanliest City in India. Notably, Lucknow Municipal Corporation is going to deploy Indore's tried and tested garbage collection model in the city now.

As per the plan of action, LMC will do away with garbage dumping points in the city. Instead of these points, dedicated garbage pick-up points will be set up across the capital city. Read on to know more about this shift in Lucknow's garbage management system.

As per the announcement made by the Mayor of Lucknow on Wednesday, this model will first be implemented as a pilot project in two localities and later expanded to the rest of the city. Under the ambit of this initiative, sanitary workers will be handed out sacks in which they will collect the garbage in the door-to-door collection drive.

This sack will be tied down and left at the pickup point for the trucks to collect and take them further to the solid waste treatment plants. The usage of sacks for garbage collection is aimed at reducing the problem of waste spillage during the shifting process. Moreover, this move will also help in improving the appearance of the city by ensuring that the garbage does not rot on the side of the roads.

Apart from bagging a top spot in Swachh Bharat Mission, 2022-23, this move is primarily aimed to improve the position of Lucknow in the Swachh Survekshan of 2022.
