The Directorate of Urban Transport in Uttar Pradesh announced that citizens with a travel pass will not be allowed to commute for free in electric buses across the state. Currently, 300 electric buses are operational in 7 districts of the state while a total of 700 such vehicles will be introduced in 14 cities. Individuals with an MST pass and the staff employees will also not be permitted to travel in these buses for free.

The Managing Director of City Transport, Pallav Bose informed that free travel for commuters with passes will only be allowed in the CNG-run buses. Further, the authorities are planning to introduce cashless transactions in the electric buses for the benefit of travelers. In order to implement this scheme, the city transport officials will purchase 100 smart electronic ticketing machines, equipped with the facility of QR code scanning.
The MD asserted that cashless transactions will bring forth a hassle-free measure of making payments. Once the plans are materialised, citizens will be able to pay through their ATM cards, wallets or UPI.

Under the ambit of a central government project, the Uttar Pradesh administration has decided to deploy 700 electric buses in 14 districts of the state. In addition to this, the road infrastructure will also be improved under the Smart City Project. Further, charging stations will also be set up for these electric buses.
The air-conditioned buses will be equipped with a string of facilities including panic buttons, live tracking resources, LED screens and CCTV cameras. They will also help in reducing air pollution and sound pollution. Additionally, the authorities are also working on a project to introduce a smart system of road regulation in Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Mathura, Prayagraj, Meerut, Bareilly, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Jhansi and some other cities.
