The state of Uttar Pradesh has decided to launch a cluster approach strategy to expedite efficient vaccination among the target people. Under this programme, the government plans to mobilise and scale the drive with a focus on small geographical areas, the size of 10-12 villages. These will ensure thorough vaccination in a particular region, boosting cluster immunity and defence against the pandemic. As per reports, the initiative will find its feet in the month of July.

In a bid to boost the availability and facilitation of COVID vaccination, the UP administration has decided to roll out a phased vaccine programme, based on geographical settings. This approach has been devised to ensure that no vaccine eligible person is missed out in any region. The plan is to select a small area and then saturate it to ensure maximum and speedy immunity.

This novel strategy has been developed with help of UNICEF, UPTSU, WHO, Rotary, CSOs and NGOs in the state, to ensure rapid immunisation against the coronavirus. It was formalised through an official order issued by the Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare.

This policy aims to augment the existing recommendations of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and pace up the vaccination administration across the state. It has been established to meet UP's ambitious vaccination drive, Mission June and the vision to administer 10 crore jabs in three months, from July onwards.

Experts have informed that UP wants to vaccinate its entire eligible population of 13.6 crore people by the end of 2021. To realise this ambition, it is crucial for the state to ramp up its capacities and provisions by at least 9 times
