Bringing in relief from the traffic woes on one of Lucknow's busiest routes, Khurram Nagar is all set to get a flyover soon. Traversing through Khurram Nagar crossing and sector-25 road intersection, the construction of this overbridge is slated to begin in January, 2022. Aimed to decongest traffic problems at these hotspots, this project will benefit more than 5 lakh people on a daily basis.

According to Ashok Kumar, the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, more than 1.5 lakh vehicles pass through the Ring Road every day. Owing to the traffic congestion, commuters have to wait for 30 to 35 minutes to cross this route almost every day.

Talking about this menace, Ramesh Kaushal a resident of Vikas Nagar said, "Every day we get stuck in traffic jams for hours at the Khurram Nagar intersection, daily commute has become a battle for all of us residing in this locality. This much-awaited project aimed to reduce travel time and other traffic woes was the need of the hour."

Stretching across 2.5 KMs, this 4-lane flyover will be constructed at an approximate budget of ₹180 crores, read the reports. Once ready, the facility is expected to benefit over 50,000 residents of the nearby areas including Vikas Nagar and Kalyanpur every day. Moreover, this development project will also aid people living or travelling to Saket Vihar, Pant Nagar, Shyam Nagar, Adil Nagar, Sugamau, Maleshemau, Jarhara along with Manas Green.

Notably, with the commissioning of the Tedhi Pulia Flyover last year, the traffic congestion issue in the area has been solved considerably. While talking about the upcoming project in Khurram Nagar, the PWD official further elucidated that with the tender for this flyover having passed now, the upcoming facility is expected to host traffic in the coming 18 months.

Provisions for construction of the underpass

Reportedly, the section from Khurram Nagar to Sector 25 intersection will be built in the first phase of this project while construction of cloverleaf directed towards Kurkrail flyover is expected to come up in the second phase. With these upcoming interventions, Khurram Nagar facility will be connected straight to the Kukrail Flyover.

Additionally, to facilitate smoother movement of local traffic, the authorities have made provisions for underpasses at these points as well. Owing to traffic movement not being streamlined, this area is prone to the possibility of impending accidents. With the increasing burden on city roads, this targeted measure has been a need since a long time to prevent such mishaps in the future.
