According to official reports, Aminabad will be shuttered till April 22 but the inactivity at Hazratganj will continue till April 18, after which, a decision will be made regarding the extension of the shutdown. Additionally, Sarafa Bazaar and Indira Nagar's Bhootnath Market will remain inoperative till April 17.
These timelines have been brought into effect by the Hazratganj Traders Association, Aminabad Merchant Association, Janpath Market Vyapar Mandal, Chowk Vyapar Mandal and Naka Vyapar Mandal.
Further, the president of Uttar Pradesh Adarsh Vyapar Mandal has urged the authorities to consider a 7-day lockdown, keeping in view the health and safety of the traders, their families and customers. Gupta added that given the daunting infection surge, it is only acceptable that all of us stay home and follow the issued COVID-19 protocols. He even worded his fears, stating that if guidelines aren't followed and strict actions are not taken right away, the aftermath of any present leniency will be catastrophic.
The decision of keeping markets shuttered in Lucknow, has been voluntarily undertaken by the associations to break the chain of the raging pandemic, even though their peak-selling season is underway. It is also to be noted that approximately 5,000 traders in the city have tested positive for the virus as yet, which is also one of the prime reasons behind this resolution.
