Just in time for Diwali, the Uttar Pradesh Matikala Board has organised the second edition of their Mati Kala Mela, a 10-day exhibition showcasing the state's pottery and clayware. The fair started on 25th October and will go on till 3rd November. It is being held at the Sangeet Natak Academy in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.

This Diwali, promote local talent by visiting the Mati Kala Exhibition

Organised to promote artisans by providing them with a platform to display their work, the Mela is a boon for Diwali-Shoppers! From festival essentials like designer diyas and Idols of Ganesh and Laxmi to flower pots and vases and other decorative items and showpieces to spruce up your house, you can find a number of beautiful options to fulfill all your shopping needs at the exhibition.

One hundred stalls to choose from!

Additional Chief Secretary (Khadi and Village Industries), Mr. Navneet Sehgal, informed that products of clay made by traditional artisans from different districts are available for sale. Approximately one hundred stalls have been allotted to the Mati Kala artisans for free. He further said that clay products of all kinds are available at the exhibition.

Artisans from Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, Azamgarh, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Unnao, Kushinagar, Agra and Pratapgarh are presenting their work at the mela.

Designer sculptures made of clay, pottery of Chunar, black pottery of Azamgarh, terracotta of Gorakhpur, and glazed pottery of Khurja, are some of the subcategories of this artform that one can witness when visiting.

Knock Knock

Apart from getting to see the beautiful and intricate works of art and getting our Diwali decor sorted, a visit to the fair will also let the artisans know of our gratitude towards them for practising the ancient art form of pottery. Initiatives like the Mati Kala Mela promote the preservation and enhancement of our cultural heritage, and for that, they deserve our support! Hence, the exhibition deserves our attention and is a must-visit.
