In an attempt to boost the ranking of Lucknow in the Swachh Survekshan 2022, Lucknow Municipal Corporation has initiated a cleanliness drive to improve the appearance of the capital city. Through this drive, the LMC has so far cleared the construction debris in the Lalbagh, Gomti Nagar, Mahanagar, Malviya Nagar and Chowk areas on Tuesday. Reportedly, the offenders will be penalised for mismanaged disposal of construction and demolition waste.

Reportedly, Lucknow generates around 1,500 to 2,000 tonnes of construction waste on a daily basis. This waste including bricks, cement, stone, mortar and others not only add filth to the streets but also contribute majorly to increasing pollution. Moreover, due to the open disposal of these wastes on the road, the movement of traffic also gets hindered.

In a bid to create an effective deterrent, the municipal corporation has imposed a fine of ₹3,000 on people who dump construction waste on the road. While talking to Knocksense, Mr Dilip Maurya, an LMC official said, this cleanliness drive will be continued repeatedly to ensure the cleanliness of the roads.

LMC is pushing this initiative forward and undertaking strict steps to secure the top rank in the annual cleanliness survey in 2022. Apart from this initiative, LMC has also launched a dedicated waste management pilot project in two wards of Lucknow. Apart from this, the civic body is also planning to conduct special cleanliness drives to spread awareness about segregated waste disposal in the city.
