Aiming to bag the Garbage Free City 7 Star Certification in the Swachh Survekshan in 2022, Lucknow Municipal Corporation has launched its pilot project, to ensure proper waste management in Lucknow. Currently, this plan has been implemented in two wards only. A door-to-door garbage collection will be implemented in these areas as a part of this drive. Lucknow's Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia has directed officials to undertake all the necessary measures to uphold prime standards of garbage disposal and civic cleanliness in the city.

Plan to be scaled up to city-level soon!

While talking about the problem of garbage dumped along the road, Mohsin Khan, a resident of Indira Nagar Area said, "Even though LMC workers sweep the area, no one collects the garbage that lays alongside the roads making it a breeding ground for disease-spreading parasites".

With this drive, LMC will take charge of proper waste management in two wards of the city. Focusing on the need to expedite the process of door-to-door garbage collection and cutting down on the open disposal thereby boosting road cleanliness, LMC had initiated its pilot project in the city on Thursday. According to the reports, upon successful implementation, this drive will be scaled up to city-level later.

This structured action plan includes the elimination of open dumping points, preventing street garbage from encroaching the road, connecting all areas in the city with high functioning sewer lines and constructing rainwater harvesting systems in city parks. Apart from this, it also includes mechanical cleaning of sewer lines, recycling and reusing water with a special focus on the cleanliness of public toilets.

LMC is pushing this initiative forward and undertaking strict steps to secure the top rank in the annual cleanliness survey in 2022. Apart from this pilot project, LMC is also planning to conduct special cleanliness drives to spread awareness about segregated waste disposal in the city.
