A seminal researcher, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI)'s principal scientist Dr Rajesh Jha has been awarded the eminent ICMR-DHR International Fellowship for Young Biomedical Scientist 2022-23.

He will go on to carry out advance gynaecological research at Baylor College of Medicine in Texas, USA.

Dr Jha, along with his research group, has been working on the biology and management of gynaecological endocrine and metabolic disorders such as endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

Effective management of ovarian and uterine disorders

At the Houston's Baylor College of Medicine, the CDRI-CSIR scientist would study the gene-specific function of the ovary and endometrium using advance Genome editing (or gene editing) transgenic approach like the CRISPR-Cas9 system. This will aid in finding solutions for and effective management in the ovarian and uterine disorders.

The aforementioned disorders are routinely observed in about 10% infertile women who report the issue at gynecology clinics. These, unquestionably, affect a woman's routine, besides causing complications with pregnancy/conception. The CDRI research group has been studying the affected endocrine/hormone associated molecular signaling in the ovary and uterus to manage the disorder to eventually result in a successful pregnancy.
